European Bronze for Chad

Teenager Chad Miller took the bronze medal in the European Junior Championships in Boras, Sweden (July 18-21) in 10.53, having won his heat in 10.67 and semi final in 10.47 just outside his season's best of 10.43 set at the end of June at the Bauhaus Junior Gala Invitation in Mannheim, Germany.

Masters of Surrey

HW Masters athletes were in the medals at the Surrey and Sussex County Championships at Kingston on June 2. Lisa Thomas (above left) won gold in the W50 400m and 300m hurdles, and bronze in the W35 800m. Emilie Bokor Ingram claimed a complete set, winning the W35 400m and taking silver in the 200m and bronze in the 100m.

HW are currently top of the Southern Athletics League (Division 3 South East) after winning the first two matches: so the quest for promotion is on target! The next match at Guildford on Saturday, June 15, will be crucial, as it includes Cambridge Harriers who have equal league points, but are lying second in the table by virtue of scoring less points than HW over the first two matches. Never has it been so true that every point counts!

Record-breaking start to the SAL campaign

HW's track and field teams got off to a superb start to the Southern Athletics League programme at Norman Park, Bromley, on Saturday, winning a close fought match by just 19 points, with a record-breaking score of 273 points (the previous highest of 246 was achieved in 2016).

Magnificent Seventh

The Club's Senior men's A team produced their best performance for a generation in the South of England 12-stage Road Relay Championships at Milton Keynes on Sunday, 24 March, finishing seventh out of the 53 competing teams, the first time in the top 10 for more than 20 years (the previous best position was 11th in 2014). The overall time of 4:03:17 was a massive improvement on the previous best of 4:20:29 set in 2014.

Bagful of Masters Medals

Club athletes won seven medals last weekend at the British Masters Indoor Championships at Lee Valley. Anna Garnier took the W60 1500 metres title in 5:48.79, winning by more than half-a-minute. She had also intended to compete in the 800m and 3000m but was unfortunately forced to withdraw due to injury.
