Rainbow Warriors


Once again, the lashing rain gave way to pale sunshine at Wimbledon Park for the last Club Open meeting of the summer season, the 5000m Festival, held for the first time on a Saturday, with the now traditional accompaniments of beer, barbecue and music.

Over nine races (the first two were combined) there were 66 PBs and 26 season's bests, culminating in a personal best for the fastest man of the night, Jonathan Escalante-Phillips of Cambridge & Coleridge/Cambridge Uni, who won the final race in 13:57.76.

For HW there were PBs for Henry McTernan (16:46.20), Alex Tsagkas (17:50.26), Tom Maloney (17:13.70), Simon Wade (16:36.29), Andrew Merry (16:35.88), U23 Henry Silverstein (15:20.23), Richard McDowell (14:55.34), Oliver Carrington (15:10.93), Fred Slemeck (14:36.42) and, to round off a season of impressive PBs across various distances, Charlie Eastaugh, who clocked 14:33.45 in the final race.

Fastest woman of the night was Louise Small, of Aldershot, Farnham & District who clocked a season's best of 16:28.77.
