Onwards and Upwards!
Another win in the Surrey Cross Country League for the Senior Men on Wimbledon Common to extend their lead in the title race. There were wins too for the U13 Boys and Girls.
Over a new, quite technical course incorporating several sharp turns, and in his first appearance in this season's Surrey League, Jonny Cornish led the Senior Men to a ruthless victory on home turf. He crossed the line in sixth, with an inspired team captain, James Stockings, just four seconds behind in eighth.
It was the resounding performance James had called for, with all ten of the HW scorers finishing within a minute of each other and the first eight home all in the top 20. The ever consistent brothers, Ed and George Mallett came home in 11th and 12th respectively, with Alex Milne in 15th, Henry Silverstein in 17th, just ahead of Fred Slemeck in 18th.
Middle distance specialist Charlie Wyllie was 20th with Archie Walton, in his first appearance in the League this year, in 23rd, and Alex Sutton scoring for the first time in 27th.
The U13 Boys were also clear winners, with Theo Creed finishing in second, James Fraser in fourth, Max Harrison in 14th and Thomas Hennigan in 16th.
The U13 Girls were also winners, with Freia Harper-Tee first home in third and Alexandra Bramwell one place behind. Blanka Domsdodi was tenth with Beatriz-Pina Harper closing the team in 27th.
The U15 Girls were second. Otelia Garcia-Davis finished in third with Ava McAndie in seventh. Leah Paulson was 15th, and Summer McDougall 21st.
The U17 Women also finished in second, with Dillan Quinn, Sophia Anderson and Grace Eminson coming home in 10th, 11th and 12th respectively and Ariana Shala closing the team in 21st; and there was a second place finished for the combined U15 Boys/U17 Men's team as Benjy Street finished in third with Jack Hobden in ninth. Noah Fernandez was 13th and Alexander McGuigan 14th.
The Senior Women (below) were eighth A team, led in by Claire Grima in 34th, followed by Poppy Robson in 43rd, Matilde Lomba in 46th, Philippa Mitchell in 48th, and Gina Galbraith in 65th.
Southern Stars
On any other weekend U15 Isabella Harrison (above) would have been racing in the Surrey Cross Country League on Wimbledon Common, however a clash with the Southern Indoor Championships saw her at Lee Valley instead, where she finished second in the final of the 800m in 2:18.32, having earlier won her heat.
U13 Thomas Hennigan, another who doubles up over the country and indoors, followed up his race in the Surrey League on the Saturday (where he finished as fourth scorer in 15th) with a silver medal over the 800m in a PB of 2:26.96.
Amelia Barnes progressed to the semi-finals of the U15G 60m, clocking 8.70, and Vivienne Jonczyk progressed to the U17 200m semi-final, posting a time of 27.56.
