Some Like it Hot

In the blistering heat of the weekend a handful of HW athletes won medals at the South of England U20 and Senior Championships in Bedford, notably gold in the 5000m for Fred Slemeck who kicked from 700m out, to win in 15:03.26. Second-claim Sam Todd finished ninth. There was gold, too, for Niamh Thompson, who found herself in a race full of seniors in her first 3,000m steeplechase.

U20 Georgie Clarke took the silver medal in a mixed 1500m of U20s and seniors, in which she finished fourth overall, and there was bronze medal for Rechmial Miller in the senior 100m in 10.51 (U23 Ryan Facey, coming back from injury, was sixth in his semi final in the same event). Oliver Winter took the bronze in the U15 Boys 3000m (the U15 and U17 3000m Championships were included in the final day of the Championships) with Ronan McArdle fourth.

U20 Albane Fery was also fourth in the 5000m, while Rebekah Riches clocked 2:19.97 in the U20 800m, her fastest time since setting her PB of 2:18.60 in 2018.
