Record Breakers
HW claimed six track relay titles at the Surrey Combined Events and Relay Championships at Carshalton on 12 September, with the U15 Boys 4 x 100m team of Omari Koroma, Markos Schuchinsky, Shawn Bell and Conor Kelly (above) setting a new Championship record of 45.31.
Busiest athlete of the day was Freddie Arkell, who anchored the U17 Men's 4 x 100m team of Khalid Ali, Marcus Gayle and Njiye Orlu to victory, then only minutes later he teamed up with Devonte Casely-Hayford, Dominic Smith-Fray and Ryan Facey to take the Senior Men's 4x 100m title (a second SM 4 x 100m team finished in third). Later in the afternoon Freddie was back on anchor leg duty bringing the team of Romane McFarlane, Marcus and Njiye home to take the gold medals in the 4 x 400m event.
There were gold medals too for in the U15B 4 x 300m team of Shawn Bell, Markos Schuchinsky, Javon Blake and Conor Kelly, and the U13B 4 x 200m team of Torin Cox, Matthew Wehrle, Thomas Whorton and Elliott Turbin; plus silver medals in the 4 x 100m for the U13 Boys, U17 Women and for the Senior Mens 4 x 400m team.
In the combined events, Jenny Steinitz found herself the only competitor in the Senior Women's Heptathlon, with 2715 points; while Mark Andrews took the silver medal in the Senior Men's decathlon with 4017 points, and Bryn Cann, in only his first decathlon, also won a silver medal in the U20 event, scoring 3644 points.
