In unfamiliar red and black, HW's Emilie Bokor-Ingram won a hat-trick of medals in the London Universities & Colleges Indoor Championships at Lee Valley, setting a new 400m record for King's College London in the process. Emily who has just begun a music degree at the University, won the 60m in a PB of 8.55, an improvement on her previous best of 8.72 set when she finished fifth in the British Masters Championships on the same track in March 2018. She also took the silver medal in the 400m in 60.57, to break the KCL record, after winning her heat in 60.86, and then bagged a second gold medal in the relays as she helped the 4 x 200m team to victory.

The previous weekend saw several HW athletes in action at the famous Silverstone motor-racing circuit. M40 vet Kieran White posted the standout performance as he beat a 500-plus field to win the 5km road race at the Run Silverstone meeting on Sunday in 16:38,  eight seconds clear of the runner-up. Three other HW runners competed over the 13.1 mile (half-marathon) race in which more than 2000 runners finished. Joe Toomey finished sixth in 74:47 with David Lewin seventh in 75:32. Rob Tuer, who was 26th in 81:58, was competing in his second race of the weekend. The day before he had slithered through the mud of Morden Park in the South of the Thames five-miles race to finish 48th of the 250 runners in 30:09. Peter Lee was 80th and sixth M50 in 3:47, with Malcolm Davies 114th and 14th M50 in 33:22, just two places and three seconds ahead of Simon Woodley.

In the women's race Lisa Thomas was the second W50 athlete home, finishing in 30th overall, in 35:20 .

Thirty-four of HW's youngest members braved the icy cold of Epsom Downs last Sunday, competing in the second of the Downs League matches. In the U11 Girls race, Ava McAndie was second, with the team finishing first on the day and overall in their League. Thomas Whorton won the U11 Boys race, with Zach Elliot finishing third to help the team to second place on the day as well as overall, just 4 points behind Epsom & Ewell, so it is all to play for going into the final two matches in February and March. The U13 Boys finished fourth on the day and are also fourth overall, while the U13 Girls were sixth.

Meanwhile, seven HW athletes have been selected to represent Surrey in the South of England Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at Shotover Common, Oxford, on Saturday (7th December).

Ellen Weir, Georgie Clarke and Niamh Thompson are in action in the U17 Girls Championship.  Lulu Weisz and Millie Thorpe will compete in the U15 Girls race, while Alice McCormack has been selected for the Women’s U20 race. Benjy Street, who won the Surrey Schools title in January, goes in the Under 13 Boys  Championship.
